You have to think twice before you invite her to your garden, this witch hazel from Japan. She needs space and you better not trim her down. 
She gives you the best of her beauty if you just let her be. Magically she blossoms in winter even without needing leaves. Nobody knows why. 
But these funny yellow flowers arrive at a moment when we really appreciate color.

I was melancholy about the sad things that sometimes happen in life. Special people like Jeannie that pass away so suddenly. Wanted to throw in some good cursing words because of the grey, cold, wet, depressing weather that underlined this mood. But just when I was about to give in totally to this sorrowful feeling, I suddenly noticed the pearls of rain which had formed in the hedge. They glittered and shone towards me. And i realized, Jeannie of all people, was someone who loved the small wonders of nature. She often shared with me the miracles she had seen or found and i sometimes painted them.

It didn't take away the feeling of loss and sadness of course but it was now mixed with beauty and gratitude. As if sharing some tears with the sky was a good thing.

There is a flower shop on the Prinsengracht in Amsterdam where they know exactly how to elevate flowers into art. It is always a feast for the eye to watch what's in their window. Sometimes it's a full bouquet or just one branch in a beautiful vase. I regularly take a detour just to take a look at their latest creation.

One thing I like about painting is that you can change reality just the way you like it. You can get rid of the unnecessary. How I wish it would be that simple in daily life. 

This is an impression of a place in Amsterdam where I often play with my dog. It is a sort of mini-island. I tried to minimize it without losing the suggestion. Do you think it worked? Or do you sometimes feel you would like to strip the superfluous?

Do you know those quite obligatory municipal bedding plants? Usually you will not give them a second glance. Yet if you do look a little closer you might even find beauty there. In the public little park around the corner from my painting studio in Uithoorn I found yellow flowers in the summer. In autumn it was filled with pretty cool pink berries. Now in winter it's filled with drab brown leaves and dented bluish white berries which has led to this miniature today. Are you also wondering what next spring will bring?

On our way for a lunch in Michelberger-hotel we encountered this typical Berlin couple on the Warschauer Brücke.

You have to look for it now, Berlin Ozzie style. Even Art Center Tacheles closed last year. Luckily we found a couple who used to have their atelier there and now started a restaurant with art just around the corner. 'Marral' it is called, fresh food made with love. And yeahh i saw a Trabant! To me all those oldfashioned cars have so much more character then the modern ones. This one is parked at Ostel. 'Das DDR Design Hostel' with all rooms in retro style.
