  1. Sea-buckthorn (duindoorn) in Ijmuiden. The latin name is Hippophae rhamnoides and it's been said that this name derived from the fact that the Mongols used buckthornberries as an antidote for eye infections of their horses. Hippos means horse Paos means light.

    The shrub grows best in poor sandy bottom and is therefore common in the dunes. I like the silvergrey leafs together with the bright orange berries.
