The black swan theory or theory of black swan events is a metaphor that describes an event that is a surprise (to the observer), has a major effect, and after the fact is often inappropriately rationalized with the benefit of hindsight. The theory was developed by Nassim Nicholas Taleb who wrote a book with the title ' The Impact Of The Highly Improbable'.

Based on the Old World presumption that all swans must be white because all historical records of swans reported that they had white feathers. In that context, a black swan was impossible or at least nonexistent.

And is not that the way it goes in life for lots of people something doesn't exist until you see proof with your own eyes...
